Interesting Case of the Month: Ectopia Cordis |

| This 6 year old boy was seen in our plastic surgery clinic in La Piedad, Mexico. He was born with his heart and upper abdomen exposed, which was covered with skin grafts.
Ectopia Cordis is an uncommon disorder which is associated with pentology of Cantrell (cleft sternum, anterior midline diaphragmatic defects, a pericardial defect, congenital heart disease, and upper abdominal omphalocoele. It is the result of incomplete closure and fusion ot the caudal and lateral abdominal folds. Definitive therapy for this disorder will include staged procedures including bone and other tissue grafts to cover the defect. |
